Breast Engorgement
Breast engorgement in the first week of
breastfeeding is not uncommon, and is due to congestion in the blood vessels
and lymphatics of the breast.
Warm showers and gentle breast massage help
(towards the nipple). Cabbage leaves should be kept in the fridge or freezer,
crushed/bruised slightly with a rolling pin and applied fresh to the breast
(like a bra cup). These need to be changed once they are warm.
