Nappy Rash or Dermatitis is one of the most common skin conditions in infants. Up to one third may exhibit symptoms of nappy rash at any given time however it is most common between 9-12 months.

Causes:
  • Friction and Wetness - Friction between the skin and the nappy causes physical damage to the soft skin of the baby, this is then exacerbated by any wetness.
  • Urine and Faeces - Prolonged exposure to urine and faeces in the nappy also contributes to the development of Nappy Rash. Infrequent nappy changes, excessive use of soaps and talcum powders also damage the skins natural oil barriers.
  • Candida Albicans - Evidence suggests that Candida does not play a direct roll in causing Nappy Rash however the incidence of Nappy Rash makes the skin more prone to infections such yeast and Candida Albicans.
